One thing that is often overlooked when stocking first-aid kits both at home and at work, is the first aid treatment for burns. With people suffering from burn injuries daily, Burnshield® aims to provide a quick remedy and heal the most common types of burns.

Burnshield® has been advancing first aid burn care since 1994. Their products aim to solve the immediate first aid needs for all types of burns by relieving the pain, rapidly removing the heat, and cooling the injury. For decades, militaries, EMTs, and medical professionals alike have called Burnshield® their preferred first aid product for burns.

Burn wounds can be complicated. However, there are two main principles to the first aid treatment of burn injuries: cool the site to limit the severity of the injury and relieve the pain felt by the victim. This is where Burnshield® Hydrogels truly stand out. Each of their dressings and blankets comes pre-soaked in their special gel formula with tea tree oil that helps treat and disinfect minor cuts. The viscous hydrogel works by drawing out the heat from the burn providing pain relief by cooling and helping to stop the burn from progressing.

Burnshield® Formula

The fluid that makes up Burnshield® gel is mostly di-ionized, pure water that has been thickened with a gelling agent to enable the formulation to stay in place over the wound. Its composition also includes a preservative system and evaporation inhibitor to control the cooling effect. All of that is combined with a wetting agent that allows for better penetration of the water into clothing or debris embedded in the wound, softening the material which helps ease the cleaning of the wound.

You may be wondering “Why isn’t water or ice enough to cool and soothe a burn”? While water or ice does work to cool burns, it's difficult to maintain water over the entire area of an injury, a significant-sized burn can also raise concerns for hypothermia when ice is applied for prolonged periods. Using ice or water on a burn injury will not only lower the temperature of the skin but can cause constriction of the veins, thus increasing the area of dead body tissue.

Sterile Burn and Wound Dressings

Comprised of pliable, absorbent, non-woven material that has been saturated in their Pain-Relieving Gel. These dressings help relieve pain by covering exposed nerve endings and tissue, which in turn helps prevent further damage to the skin caused by sunburns, chemical burns, electrical burns, steam, and hot oil burns.

Fire/Trauma Blankets

Made of pure virgin wool, woven with a unique interlinking cell construction. The special design of the wool allows for the blanket to hold up to 14 times its weight of Burnshield® HydroGel. These blankets are designed for emergency and industrial use, and to also provide physical protection from heat, fire, and smoke.
