AGS is an American-based company that has been around for over 85 years! They developed their first product, a multipurpose stick lubricant back in 1931. Their primary mission is to focus their time and energy on developing fresh new insights into the automotive service industry, and that is reflected in their extensive line of products. Today we will be taking a look at a few products from each category.
Don’t let the name fool you, this Door-Ease Dripless Oil is all-purpose and can work its magic in many different scenarios. This product is specifically formulated to stay put and not drip all over the place upon application. It penetrates quickly, combining the best properties of oil and grease. Not only does this product lubricate but it helps to keep the surface rustproof and displaces moisture. The dripless oil won’t gum or harden up at -28C or drip at +93C and outperforms common “cure-all” sprays. Some suggested applications for this product are hinges, joints, chains, overhead hoists, stuck nuts/bolts, locks, and instrumentation.
Living in the ‘Great White North’ and working for an all Canadian company comes with a lot of perks, I mean who doesn’t want free health care and it’s pretty nice not having to check our shoes and toilet seats for poisonous spiders! Unfortunately, there has to be a con and for us, it’s our freezing cold winters. Driving, in particular, comes with a new set of problems in the cold weather, and today we will specifically be talking about frozen locks. Luckily for us, AGS has a solution, Lock De-Icer! This product thaws frozen locks quickly and keeps them working throughout winter by lubricating the internal lock mechanism to prevent further freezing while simultaneously protecting against rust. Besides your car door, some suggested applications for the Lock De-Icer are padlocks, gas cap locks, bike rack locks, ski box locks, and luggage box locks. This product is sold in 15ML tubes making it easy to carry around and leaving you prepared for any situation.
Speaking of locks, I’m now going to give you the key to fixing sticky, uncooperative ones. There are a few situations in my life where it would have been helpful to have the Mr. Zip Extra Fine Graphite lubricant around. Rather than being liquid-based, this lubricant is an all-purpose, dry graphite powder that is both odorless and non-toxic. It’s used to guard against sticking, wear, and corrosion and is most commonly used for sticky locks. The graphite powder doesn’t hold onto the dust and dirt giving you a lock-tight solution in these sticky situations. The Lubricant can be used year-round on all types of material, including metal, wood, plastic, and rubber. Suggested applications include precision instruments, hinges, tools, guns, fishing reels, camera shutters, bicycles, office machines, toys, and other fine mechanisms.
If you have a squeaky garage door that’s been driving you crazy AGS has your perfect solution. The Automatic Garage Door Lubricant! This product is used for lubricating garage door rails, rollers, slides, and screws and with regular use assures thorough lubrication and protection against wear, moisture, and corrosion. When garage doors are involved a common mistake, people tend to make is greasing the chain. You see, garage door opener chains come with a protective coating already applied to them that should last the life of the motor so adding more lubricant isn’t necessary. So rather than lubricating the chain, try and put some product on the top of the rail. That is what the door grabs on to when sliding up and is where the most friction is created. Another common mistake is greasing the track. Over time, dust and dirt are blown around and it starts to stick to the track hardening it like cement. The only part you can grease is the curve of the track where the two pieces of metal join. The best way to take care of your track is by wiping it down and keeping it free of dust and dirt.
One of the most popular products we sell in our AGS Chemical line is Sil-Glyde® Lubricating Compound. This product is extremely popular because of its ability to restore and rejuvenate rubber back to its former glory. Though intended for brake parts, it can also be used on most of the rubbers around your car. For instance, the weather sealing around your doors and trunks. It helps to refurbish the rubber components and revitalize the sills while bringing life back into old rubber and keeping it from cracking any further. It even softens your rubber up in areas where it has dried out. This coating actually stays on the rubber as it is weatherproof keeping your car’s rubber safe and lubricated! When using Sil-Glyde® Brake lubricant on brake parts you are supposed to add a small amount to the caliper slide pin which is the part of your braking system that holds the two sides of the caliper together. It is important to lubricate this because it can lead to uneven wearing on your brake pads. These pins are either covered by or have a rubber component on them which is what needs the lubricant. It is important to use silicone lubricants because silicone can withstand the heat caused by driving and brake usage. Lots of other break greases and lubricants will swell up the rubber on the end of the caliper slide pin making the pin difficult to remove and your job harder. Sil-Glyde is non-melting, non-freezing, non-gumming, and weatherproof and should be your go-to for all your rubber needs.
The final AGS Specialized Lubricant we are going to talk about today is the Connector Protector – Dielectric Compound. This Compound provides a moisture-proof barrier for electrical connections and wiring. It locks out the weather, salt, and dirt, even in severe outdoor conditions while protecting against corrosion and insulating your connections. A common use is applying it to the connections in your vehicle. When you go to change out a battery, sparkplug, or light bulb, place a generous coating on the connectors, the extra product is squished out when connecting them together and you are left with an air-tight seal. No air means no corrosion and no water means no short circuits which leave you and your car very happy. Other applications include plugs, sockets, connectors, bulbs, outdoor equipment, and underground connections.
Now AGS offers plenty more specialty lubricants, so if you have any questions about any of the products we mentioned feel free to contact us here.
